OUR RESCUE FAMILY
" Prancer "
He was rescued from a feed lot. He is the patriarch of all the donkeys and our first rescue. Because of Prancer we wanted to do more for the donkeys being neglected, abused, starved, and thrown away to die in the kill pen. He is the reason we started a rescue.
" BABY BO "
Baby Bo was with his mother in the kill pen. A baby in the worst imaginable place. He was a friend to another baby that died, and now is provided sanctuary here with his mother Mary. The mother of the baby that died also lives here with them. Her name is Carmela.
" Buddy & Tiny "
Buddy & Tiny were held for ransom by a meat buyer. Tiny had many life threatening health conditions and almost died. Buddy stood by his brother in the hospital. Tiny would heal, and they would grow stronger together. Without a forever home, we decided to offer them sanctuary here. Now they spend their days playing and getting the love they deserve.
" Grace "
Grace is a senior donkey. She has had a tragic life from abuse and neglect. She is now provided sanctuary here where she can be safe, and at peace during her final days. This is what sponsorship does.
" Carmela "
Carmela was rescued from the kill pen with her child. Her child died shortly after being rescued. Now she is provided sanctuary here to heal, and to live in peace.
" VIXEN "
Vixen came here with her best friend Grace. They were both temporarily being held at another sanctuary in Maine. When they had to find new homes we accepted them into our family. Vixen is provided sanctuary here at the rescue.
"Theodore"
"Theo" is quite possibly the smallest donkey in Maine. At only 28 inches tall he struggles daily because of the muscular disease he lives with. He is currently receiving medical treatment as we dig into finding which disease in particular, he is struggling with. He remains under our sanctuary care as we figure this out for him. If you are interested in supporting Theodore please consider sponsoring him monthly.
" Mary "
Mary was with her child Baby Bo in the kill pen. She is bonded to her baby and the best mother donkey I have ever seen. She is provided sanctuary here.
" GLORY "
Glory was our very first rescue horse. She was a scared little filly pulled from her mother too soon. She needed a gentle and confident handler. She still needs a little more time growing into her confidence but she has all the time she needs here. She bonded to Thomas, and fell into a deep grief when he passed. She has now bonded to our blind horse Ivy and was placed into sanctuary status so they can stay together forever. She has a silver mane that sparkles in the sun. She is so kind and loving to Ivy.
" Blitzen "
He was saved from a kill lot. He originally found a home. He was surrendered back to a rescue and Ashley knew it was Prancer's relative returning so she immediately contacted the facility to rescue him. We believe he is Prancer's father. Their reunion is on our facebook page. We offered Blitzen sanctuary to be with his son forever.
" LADY BIRCH & BUTTONWOOD "
Lady Birch and her son were at an auction lot in VA. A pregnant mother in the auction system with her child would get sick and potentially die eventually. We had to act fast and our wonderful followers did! They are now here safe and happy.
" IVY "
Ivy is a blind Belgian draft horse rescued from the slaughter after working for the amish. She is now home at our sanctuary.
" Wildflower "
Wildflower was an orphan rescued from an auction. She now lives in sanctuary here.
" Bruno "
He was leaving within hours to be slaughtered. Our followers joined together and saved him just in time. He is so thankful to be alive, and he has the biggest personality!
" ASPEN "
She was rescued from a kill lot. Her mother was shipped to slaughter, and she was left alone and so scared. Our followers joined together and saved her just in time. She is now healing here at our rescue.
" Thomas "
Crossed Over the Rainbow Bridge
Thomas was an amish work horse who was worked to injury and thrown away to the kill pen. He was in the process of shipping to slaughter when our wonderful followers rescued him. Thomas had Wobbler's syndrome and had extensive care and therapy done just to live another day. He received all the love and retirement he deserved in the few months he was with us. We will never forget our Thomas.
" Comet & Cupid "
These two baby orphans were rescued from the kill pen and now reside here at our sanctuary.
